lestrade dying in a shoot out with a criminal that the yard had been chasing for several months and was almost about to catch. mycroft getting the news that his husband and best friend had died, and him being so shocked and sad that he quits his job and leaves the british government to the next young person with ambition and great ideas. now he only lies in what used to be lestrade’s and his bed and keeps a full glass of scotch on the bedside table and just feels empty. he no longer wears bespoke suits, only lestrade’s old t-shirts that barely smell like him anymore
